As it was reported earlier, the city of Wausau, Wisconisn, was in talks to merge their human resources department with the neighboring Marathon County. Now, after a deadlock vote from the Wausau City Council, Mayor Jim Tipple has passed an agreement to continue negotiations with Marathon until the end of the month.
Bill Nagle, the former human resources director of Wausau, retired in 2008, and the city has gone without one since.
The potential merger will affect nearly 300 employees of Wausau. If it is approved, those employees will be transferred to Marathon County’s H.R. department. The merger would also mean an extra million dollars in health insurance fees.
Tipple said, “I’ve been very concerned over the past two years. So if there is anybody that would want this agreement to happen it would be myself. So we either need to get this to happen or we need to get some outside expertise to help us, because we’ve been exposed for the past two years.”
