County HR Director Demands Salary Cut – For Herself

buttecountycalifornia_160x1The human resources director of Butte County, California has asked the Board of Supervisors that her salary be reduced.

Laura Brunson asked the county’s Board of Supervisors to cut her pay by nearly $13,000. The county is facing budget cuts. Her annual salary is currently $129,134.

Brunson said that “due to the deteriorating economic conditions, and the impact it has on county finances,” she wants the board to change her contract, cutting her salary by $12,723 immediately. She is also asking that her automatic salary increases be canceled.

Butte County is located in the Central Valley of California, north of the state capital, Sacramento. As of the 2000 census, it had a population of 203,000; 2005 estimates place this at 214,000. The county seat is Oroville. Butte County is the “Land of Natural Wealth and Beauty.”
